The Thalia Group
Our Toolkit: Leadership development
In a change environment, leadership often comes from within the group as well as from “the top.” In order for this to be constructive and not chaotic, many groups find it helpful to reframe the way leadership is defined and valued in the organization. That learning process is at the heart of The Thalia Models’ Leadership Development work.
The Thalia Group differentiates Leadership and Management in these ways:
- To be a leader is to be a force for change.
- To be a manager is to get today’s work done today.
Both are critical. Each is distinct.
This perspective is based on the notion that true leadership does not depend on positional authority, but on the capacity and commitment that any individual possesses to be a “force for change.” Leadership development, then, is an important component of The Thalia Model.
If you or your group is looking to better understand these differences, how developing them within your team will be useful in navigating change, and what implications different kinds of leadership may have on future directions, ask us for more information about our Leadership Development model.

can change the world. ”
